Since the global COVID-19 pandemic began, Raymondville ISD Child Nutrition has served 700,000 student meals. Even when schools closed, child nutrition staff continued to work and provided nutritious curbside meals.
In 2018 Raymondville ISD changed Food Service Consultants and began contracting with Walker Quality Services. As a result of this change, the district saved
$110,000 per year. Increased participation in breakfast and lunch service and the supper program led to a
$350,000 revenue increase. Overall, food service added
$474,774 to the fund balance from 2018-2020.
Additionally, Raymondville ISD Food Services received a written commendation from the Fall 2019 audit.
Texas Department of Agriculture approved a $630,000 cafeteria project for roofs, HVAC, and lighting using excess revenues generated by foodservice. RISD completed this project in Summer 2020.
“The Bearkat” food trailer is used regularly to feed students, staff, and guests at community events and promote the district. More than 1,000 meals have been served out of The Bearkat to workers at the district COVID vaccine clinics.
