At Raymondville Independent School District, early childhood literacy is an essential building block in overall student learning and achievement. In celebration of our 6th year of Full Day High Quality Pre-K 4, the district is pleased to announce that it will offer Open Enrollment to students living in Willacy County and all surrounding areas.
Children must be 4 years old by September 1, 2019.
Transportation is available for those who qualify.
Raymondville ISD currently implements a full day schedule using Big Day Prekindergarten Curriculum at Pittman Elementary and L.C. Smith Elementary campuses. Beginning today this program is open to ALL students regardless of residence or income.
The Prekindergarten program is aligned to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), which include a comprehensive instructional scope and sequence that consists of Social and Emotional Development, Language and Communication, Emergent Literacy Reading, Emergent Literacy Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Physical Development, and Technology. The district also offers a free literacy app, Footsteps2Brilliance, to all families that live in the Raymondville zip code area. All teachers and paraprofessionals of Pre-Kindergarten students participate in University of Houston’s CLI Engage courses and professional learning. Prekindergarten classrooms engage in STEM/Blended Learning and Family Engagement Activities throughout the year.
2018 STAAR scores show that early literacy efforts at RISD are headed in the right direction. Last year’s third graders, the first to participate in the full day PreK program, saw a 10% increase in STAAR Reading and a 9% increase in STAAR Math scores in comparison with the previous year’s group.
Research has proven that investing in an early childhood program is advantageous to all children in the district. It All Starts Here!
