Raymondville ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Frank Cantu Announces Retirement

Raymondville, Texas – After an incredible 31-year coaching career at Raymondville High School, including 11 years as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Frank Cantu has announced his retirement. Having attended Raymondville High School, Coach Cantu has dedicated his life to serving the Bearkat community and building a legacy of excellence.

During his tenure as Head Football Coach, Coach Cantu led the Bearkats to numerous achievements, including nine playoff appearances, three district championships, and three bi-district championships. His leadership and commitment to success have earned him the distinction of being second all-time in wins at Raymondville ISD. Additionally, Coach Cantu has been recognized twice as the Valley Morning Star Coach of the Year and was honored as Texas Football Magazine Coach of the Week, reflecting his impact both locally and statewide.

Coach Cantu’s influence extends far beyond the football field. Over three decades, he has shaped the lives of countless student-athletes, fostering their development not only as athletes but also as leaders and members of the community. His unwavering dedication to his players, staff, and the Bearkat family has left an indelible mark on Raymondville High School.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at the school and community I love,” said Coach Cantu. “Raymondville has given me so much, and I’ve been blessed to give back through this role. I’m proud of everything we have accomplished together. I want to thank my players, coaches, colleagues, and the incredible Bearkat community for their support and trust. I am especially thankful for the support I’ve been given by Mr. Roane and the Board of Trustees. While I am stepping away from coaching, I will forever be a Bearkat and look forward to cheering on our teams from the stands.”

Raymondville ISD Superintendent Stetson Roane expressed gratitude for Coach Cantu’s service, saying, “Coach Frank Cantu’s legacy is defined by excellence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to our students. He has set a high standard for Raymondville athletics, and his impact on our district and community will be felt for generations. We wish him all the best as he begins this new chapter.”

Coach Cantu’s retirement marks the conclusion of a remarkable career and a significant chapter in Raymondville ISD athletics.
