The Raymondville Bearkat Band achieved a major milestone on Saturday, October 26, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Beeville, earning the title of Area E Champions and advancing to the State Marching Contest. Competing in one of the state’s largest 3A regions—Area E, which stretches from the Rio Grande Valley almost to San Antonio and the outskirts of Houston—Raymondville rose to the top of a field of 27 bands.
During the preliminary round, the Bearkat Band set a strong lead, securing the top rating from all five judges. Their final performance that evening confirmed their championship, with every judge awarding them first place once again. This achievement caps an undefeated season, solidifying their position as the Area's top band.
In an emotional moment, the band gathered on the field to hear the final results. Cheers, hugs, and joyful tears erupted as the announcement was made, marking a triumphant celebration of the students’ months of hard work and dedication.
Band Director Ben Keltner reflected on the accomplishment, saying, “Our students have poured their hearts into this season, and this championship is a testament to their hard work and commitment. We’re excited to represent Raymondville at the state level and can’t wait for what’s next.”
The Raymondville Bearkat Band now prepares for the State Marching Contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio on November 6, where they will showcase their skills on Texas’s biggest stage. Raymondville ISD is proud to support these dedicated students as they continue their remarkable journey.
