Raymondville ISD Offers Free 3D Mammograms to Employees for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Raymondville, TX – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Raymondville ISD is offering free 3D mammograms to district employees on Saturday, October 12, 2024, and Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The service, provided through a partnership with Baaxten Imaging Center in Harlingen, will be coordinated by the Raymondville ISD Health Clinic, which will handle all patient referrals.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women, with 1 in 8 women in the United States expected to develop the disease in their lifetime. Early detection through regular screening significantly improves the chances of survival. Studies show that 3D mammograms are 40% more effective at detecting invasive cancers in their earliest stages and significantly reduce the number of false positives compared to traditional 2D mammograms.

“At Raymondville ISD, 70% of our teachers are women, and it’s crucial that we prioritize their health and well-being,” said Dr. Ben Clinton, Deputy Superintendent. “By offering free 3D mammograms and making referrals simple through our health clinic, we aim to support our staff with the best tools for early detection.”

The Raymondville ISD Health Clinic, which is open to the public, provides a range of health services year-round. This initiative highlights the district’s commitment to preventive care and employee wellness.
