Raymondville, TX – Students at Pittman Elementary and LC Smith Elementary recently participated in hands-on College and Career Exploration Camps, sparking curiosity and excitement as they explored the worlds of dinosaurs, Earth science, and marine biology. These interactive camps, offered through College 1st, provided students with engaging, real-world learning opportunities while introducing them to potential future careers.
At both Pittman Elementary and LC Smith Elementary, students participated in the Dinosaur World Camp, where they became young paleontologists. Students learned about different dinosaur species, uncovered fossils, and explored Earth’s ancient history. “Finding fossils was the best part. I felt like a real scientist!” said Aubrey Gonzalez, an enthusiastic Pittman Kindergarten student.
In addition to Dinosaur World, LC Smith Elementary students explored environmental science in the Earth Science Camp, where they tackled global challenges like climate change and extreme weather events. Students built battery-powered electric vehicles and participated in a thrilling race. “Racing the car we built was so much fun, and we learned how we can help stop pollution,” said one participant.
At Pittman Elementary, students also took part in the Marine Biology Camp, where they explored ocean ecosystems and worked on solutions to protect marine life from pollution and overfishing. “I didn’t know that plastic was hurting the oceans so much,” remarked 4th grader Isla Arriaga. “Now I want to help save sea animals!”
“These camps opened our students’ eyes to new career possibilities while teaching valuable lessons about the world around them,” said Dr. Benjamin A. Clinton, Deputy Superintendent at Raymondville ISD. “They were excited and fully engaged throughout the experience.”
Raymondville ISD is proud to offer such enriching opportunities to help students develop their skills, curiosity, and passion for learning as they prepare for future success.
