The Bearkat Band is celebrating a banner year, having recently achieved outstanding results in two major statewide competitions. The band was named State Champion Runners-up in the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) Outstanding Performance Series (OPS) and secured a commendable 9th place in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Band Semifinals.
These accomplishments mark a new high for the Bearkat Band, highlighting the exceptional skill and dedication of its members. The ATSSB OPS competition annually recognizes the best concert band programs across various classifications in Texas, and being named runners-up is a significant achievement. Meanwhile, the band's 9th place finish in the TMEA Honor Band Semifinals underscores their status as one of the top bands in the state.
Ben Keltner, the band's director, expressed his pride in the students' achievements. "This year has been extraordinary for us," said Keltner. "Finishing as runners-up in the ATSSB OPS and placing in the top ten at the TMEA Honor Band Semifinals is a huge honor. Our students have worked incredibly hard, and these results are a testament to their talent and commitment."
Building on this success, the Bearkat Band has already kicked off their summer marching band rehearsals with a new goal in sight: the 3A state marching band championship. The band is determined to capitalize on their recent momentum and aims to deliver another stellar performance on the field this season.
Benjamin Clinton, Deputy Superintendent, also praised the band’s accomplishments. "The Bearkat Band has made our school and community proud," Clinton stated. "We are excited to support them as they prepare for the 3A state marching band competition. Their dedication and passion for music are truly inspiring."
The community is encouraged to come out and support the Bearkat Band as they continue to pursue excellence in both concert and marching band competitions. For more updates on the band's progress and upcoming performances, please visit the school's website.
