Raymondville ISD Celebrates Successful First Week of Sports Camp

Raymondville, TX – June 14, 2024 – Raymondville Independent School District is excited to announce the successful completion of the first week of its annual Sports Camp for students in grades 1-5. Hosted at Raymondville Early College High School, the camp runs Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 12 PM and offers a diverse range of activities designed to engage young athletes and encourage physical fitness.

During the first week, students enthusiastically participated in baseball, softball, dance, and tumbling. The camp, which aims to foster a love for sports and healthy living, is already proving to be a hit with the community.

“We're thrilled with the turnout and the enthusiasm we've seen from the kids,” said Raymondville ISD ACE Program Coordinator, Connie Saenz. “Our goal is to provide a fun and safe environment where students can learn new skills and make lasting friendships. The first week has set a fantastic tone for the rest of the camp.”

Parents are equally enthusiastic about the program. Amanda Rubalcaba, mother of a third-grader, shared her thoughts: “This camp is an incredible opportunity for our children. My daughter has been looking forward to it for weeks, and she’s come home every day excited to tell me about all the new things she's learned and the friends she's made. It’s wonderful to see her so engaged and active.”

Students are also enjoying the wide range of activities. Johnny Sosa, a fifth-grade student, expressed his excitement: “I love trying out all the different sports, especially baseball and tumbling. The coaches are really nice, and I've made a lot of new friends. I can't wait for next week!”

The camp's second week will feature soccer, volleyball, dance, cheer, and tumbling, followed by a third week that will include swimming, basketball, dance, cheer, and tumbling. Each activity is designed to cater to various interests and skill levels, ensuring that every student finds something they enjoy.

Coach Jessica Acuña added, “We’re looking forward to introducing the students to even more sports in the coming weeks. It's all about building confidence, teamwork, and a love for staying active.”
